BURIED ONIONS
Paris Mudd and Mr. Mudd's 3rd film is called Buried Onions.
Buried Onions is a film about contemporary Hispanic street survival in Fresno, California. At the story's center is Eddie, a 19-year-old kid struggling against the circumstances of his life, growing up with the urban problems now common place in every mid-size town across America. The film is based on Gary Soto's prize-winning novel, now in its 16th printing. It has all the classic elements of drama: revenge, betrayal, illicit loveŅand the persistent optimism of youth.
Rodrigo Garcia Saiz is attached to direct the film, based on his stylish and original commercial work in the Latin American market. The film will be co-produced with Alta Vista Films. Diego Luna (whose well known role in "Y Tu Mama Tambien" broke box office records in Mexico) is attached to play the lead role of Eddie. We have approached the band Molotov, whose first album sold over a million copies and whose second & third albums have garnered Grammy nominations, to do the soundtrack. The Hispanic market is the fastest growing segment of US film audiences, and Hispanic consumer spending is expected to rise 50% in the next 6 years. However we feel the unmistakable voice, urban themes and working class trials will provide strong appeal to a much wider audience, as the film "Boyz in the Hood" did a decade ago.
